something entirely different
xer0x and I's first collaboration was years ago on a piece called 'hospital sheets'. we've worked on more since then, some of it minted, some of it not. the culmination of those efforts founded in destroying and rebuilding our understanding of creation as a whole.
I found myself near his hometown around christmas 2025, he'd been working on perfecting a method for etching. later I found myself painting tar onto slabs in the shower of a days inn. then covering those paintings with acid in a snow covered driveway to create the etch. then sitting in a basement applying ink and running the sheets through a big fucking roller. I was blown away by the irregularities it captured, the film like quality of distortion and failures that lended themselves perfectly to the theme.
we had about three chances to get the perfect print before the etch board died. and fucking got em.
the work produced are two 1/1 unique state prints (no additional copies produced) using a sugar-lift intaglio etching process involving acid-etched aluminum plates. The sugar-lift process was employed to create fluid, brush-like marks, which were then bitten into the aluminum plate through successive acid etches by the hand of the artists. The plate was hand-inked and wiped before being printed on dampened Fabriano Artistico 100% cotton paper using an etching press.
Following printing, the paper was allowed to dry and cure before being permanently mounted to a custom-made birch panel with an archival heavy acrylic medium. The mounted print was then sealed with an archival wax finish, providing surface protection while maintaining the tactile qualities and matte appearance of the paper.
The panel presentation was chosen as it eliminates the need for traditional glazing and allows the work to be viewed as a direct object while preserving the archival integrity of both the print and its support.
